Thrill Velocity is an experimental electronic music project that I’ve been feeling lately. This particular track reminds me of walking home late at night down South 6th in Brooklyn with the Manhattan skyline not too far off in the distance. It starts off very slow and ambient, but in the end it takes you to the core of the chaos–just like the city.
The second track will make you have sex and shake your ass–in either order. You decide!
Bonus Video Shit:
Okkervil River is joining the likes of 50 Cent and Green Lanturn with the release of their most recent (and I think first) mix tape. The 9 track mix is available for free on the band’s website. I’ll be listening to this on my journey to visit the fam, especially “Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas.” Now go and cop this free shit! Then go get Stage Names…. my vote for 2007 album of the year…….stop jocking that Panda Bear record…..yes you…..it was dope, but this was better.
Another great “mix tape”……..
So this past weekend I started and quickly finished the book Natasha and Other Stories, by David Bezmozgis. It had me within the first 3 paragraphs and by the time I finished the main story, “Natasha,” I was really jocking this dude’s work. His perspective on immigrant culture delves deeper than usual and reveals a pure humanistic quality that I totally dig. The stories touch upon everything from basement masturbation and teenage love to self discovery and loss–always a bit of humor to accent the book’s melancholy.
Shortly, after finishing the book, the song ”Thirteen” by Big Star came on my ipod. It reminded me of “Natasha.” Read the story and listen to the song. It’s way better than me explaining the connection.
Bonus Shit: Elliot Smith covering “Thirteen”
These two clips from Serge Gainsbourg don’t need an intro. They’re simply amazing…..nuff said.
Random Fact: Serge Gainsbourg claims that he once had sex with Tolstoy’s granddaughter in Salvatore Dali’s home.
Between Ikea and the new music that has been coming out of Stockholm lately, one could say that ”Sweden is on some next level shit!” And while most of the furniture from Ikea breaks after a few months, the music seems to have some staying power. Right now I’m really feeling this duo out of Stockholm called Standfast. The lead singer’s voice is amazing and her lyrics are cunning. Step in this shit:
Support It:
There’s really nothing better than an early morning walk……ok maybe a few things. Anyhow, I often walk around with my ipod and get lost in the music. ”Early Morning Wanderings” by Chris Joss is the perfect song to zone out to while absording the beauty of a fall morning.
Frrrrrrr. Step in this shit and check out a bonus video from Chris Joss. And if you’re feeling his shit, then support that shit…..Chris Joss’ Myspace Page
The only thing hotter than a woman with a foreign accent is a woman with a foreign accent having an orgasm. Enter Aguaturbia’s “Erotica:” 3 minutes and 49 seconds of a Chilean woman having an orgasm over an amazing instrumental track.
I’ve listened to this song countless times, yet I still get a little uncomfortable whenever it comes on my ipod while in public. I wonder whether or not the people standing next to me on the train can hear it. It’s kind of fun…..try it and let me know how you feel.
This is simply an amazing song by an artist that really deserves some shine. His name is A.A. Bondy and he’s creating relevant folk music that should occupy a few megabytes on your ipod. Enjoy this SHIT!
Sometimes you find beauty in imperfection and that’s exactly what makes this track by Seth Kaufman so brilliant. This is some serious lo-fi shit! The song is called “Summertime Bossa Nova” and it appears on his newly released album, Research. I’ve been walking around the city lately listening to this and missing summer days. It’s November and New York is getting cold. I could feel my nipples through 3 layers today….not that I was feeling myself or anything.
Support this shit!
Welcome to the next level of my blogging escapades. Keep in tune and watch where you step; because it’s all about stepping in good shit.
I first heard the Bees (or a Band of Bees as they are called in the US) about a year ago and I’ve been digging them ever since. http://www.myspace.com/thebeesofficial
Their new video is is the SHIT from start to finish. I love the slow build up leading to the triumphant finale. I”M TOTALLY FEELING THIS SHIT!
