It’s been a minute and a half since I last posted about some shit I was feeling–Ok maybe it’s been a few months. Whatevski, I’m back in full effect.

I went to college with a bunch of New Jersey heads and from that experience I’ve gathered this much: The Boss is to Jersey what Jesus is to Jerusalem. I’ve been totally feeling this remix of Bruce Springstein’s “I’m on Fire,” It was done by Cousin Cole and it’s a slamming remix. I can almost feel the Jersey Shore pumping their fists to this joint. In 1995 I used to get home from school at 315 and watch Yo MTV Raps and Rap City. Those were the days when I wore Tommy Hillfiger shirts and dreamed of doing a collab with Wu Tang Clan–still waiting on that one by the way. Here are a few videos that bring me back to those days….

Thrill Velocity is an experimental electronic music project that I’ve been feeling lately. This particular track reminds me of walking home late at night down South 6th in Brooklyn with the Manhattan skyline not too far off in the distance. It starts off very slow and ambient, but in the end it takes you to the core of the chaos–just like the city.

The second track will  make you have sex and shake your ass–in either order. You decide!

Okkervil River is joining the likes of 50 Cent and Green Lanturn with the release of their most recent (and I think first) mix tape. The 9 track mix is available for free on the band’s website. I’ll be listening to this on my journey to visit the fam, especially “Listening to Otis Redding at Home During Christmas.” Now go and cop this free shit! Then go get Stage Names…. my vote for 2007 album of the year…….stop jocking that Panda Bear record…..yes you…..it was dope, but this was better.

So this past weekend I started and quickly finished the book Natasha and Other Stories, by David Bezmozgis. It had me within the first 3 paragraphs and by the time I finished the main story, “Natasha,” I was really jocking this dude’s work.  His perspective on immigrant culture delves deeper than usual and reveals a pure humanistic quality that I totally dig. The stories touch upon everything from basement masturbation and teenage love to self discovery and loss–always a bit of humor to accent the book’s melancholy.

Shortly, after finishing the book, the song ”Thirteen” by Big Star came on my ipod. It reminded me of “Natasha.” Read the story and listen to the song. It’s way better than me explaining the connection.

Mystery Palace …..From Minneapolis. These guys are great. Electronic yet indie rock sound. Really, really interesting music. Check out “Nascar Survivor.”

The Teeth ….. Park The Van records is holding it down right now. These guys are all over the place. Check out “Yellow.”

Blonde Acid Cult …… One of NYC’s best bands. Really feeling this shit. Actually I didn’t find these guys on Myspace…someone told me about them.

 Your 33 Black Angels ……Another great band out of NYC. “Psycho on Your Side” is one of my favorite songs right now.

Between Ikea and the new music that has been coming out of Stockholm lately, one could say that ”Sweden is on some next level shit!” And while most of the furniture from Ikea breaks after a few months, the music seems to have some staying power. Right now I’m really feeling this duo out of Stockholm called Standfast. The lead singer’s voice is amazing and her lyrics are cunning. Step in this shit:
